American Boiler Services is preparing to expand on its offerings and capabilities to add greater value to our end customers in response to emerging market demand. American Boiler Services has initiated an innovative organization structure to drive customer satisfaction and competitive positioning in quality and pricing.
ABS has performed outage repair work in and around the Kentucky power producing area. Our supervision has at one time or another worked at many plants in the Kentucky area, though not with us at the time. While we do have a local SouthEast portfolio, we have performed work from Oxnard, CA to Ravenswood, New York City to Tampa, Florida.
The bulk of our traveling personnel are from the Southwest and Southeast.
Our origin with our field hands goes back to 1981, we have sons and daughters in our ranks who have grown up in our family. The field personnel are very loyal to our brand as we have always paid above the fray by maintaining exceptional performance and thus the low bidder. We have competed fixed price against Bechtel, Flour, TEI, Ahlstrom, D&Z, Zachary, B&W, Foster Wheeler, Enerfab et al.
We have partnered with Ahlstrom, TEI, and Noel. Those projects have included MSR changeouts in nuclear, high energy piping (50,000 ft) and the installation and start-up of 10 SCR projects.
Of interest to Kentucky Utilities are number one lowest evaluated supplier of on schedule outage for boiler pressure parts, air preheaters, baghouses, precipitators, SCRs, scrubbers, ductwork (including 24% nickel).
ABS has performed outages in excess of 15,000 pressure part welds at DP&L, complete boiler balance draft conversions, engineered designed procured installed, and guaranteed the cleanest Nox boiler in the US – 99% Nox and 100% Co removal at Huntington Beach units 3 & 4. Our number two goal of interest to Kentucky Utilities is a repeat of number one, to be the evaluated low-cost provider of complete reliable outage personnel.
We deal with coal, gas, biomass, trash, solar and combined cycle powerplants from 45 to 850 MW’s. At Pirkey our company had the opportunity to replace the sloping floor & reheats of the country’s largest furnace while changing out the burners. What makes our outages come in on time? Extensive pre-planning for manpower by scope and outage time table. Our planning, scheduling, and job cost control is headed by a PMP, RMP, and past President of the PMP Tulsa Chapter. The undersigned President of ABS is also the company’s Quality Assurance Manager, responsible for our excellent weld reject rate. We do maintain on staff a Project Engineer, PMP and MS Materials Science Engineer.
Our company is engineering level driven from the top down to our field supervision. Rigging and demolition are both hallmarks of our ability to quickly and safely, get the boiler gutted, prep the pressure parts, and hang/install the new material. As in the case of SoCal Edison, DP&L we have utilized very successfully stiff-legged cranes on the boiler roof for multiple heavy lifts.
